What is evil?

I was lucky enough to visit my friends seminar on this topic. He based his talk mainly on Karl Barth‘s opinions. Needless to say I loved the talk and I added some more of my own logic to this summary:

God Himself is unlimited, and everyone who aspires unlimitedness competes with Him. Thus, striving for unlimitedness is evil. God is also good and we are called to seek Him. So the attainment of unlimitedness is ONLY good and possible when one is IN God. The new birth in Him, which takes place in the new Jerusalem leads to good infinity/ good unlimitedness.

To elaborate a bit further.

Our differentiation from God contains many complexities like us not being able to grasp the complete truth ergo knowing that we can’t know fully. This provides us with peace in not oppressing others with what we think is right but allows for firm convictions because we know the one who is Goodness himself.

“Jesus does not give recipes that show the way to God as other teachers of religion do. He is Himself the way”

— Karl Barth, Theologian
